Mexico City, first place in attracting foreign direct investment | 18 August 2023

The Ministry of Economic Development (Sedeco) of Mexico City reported that, according to data from the federal Ministry of Economy , during the first semester of 2023, Mexico City was the federal entity that attracted the most foreign direct investment (FDI), with 10,225 million dollars (mdd), followed by Nuevo León with 2,795 mdd and Baja California with 1,463 mdd.

The head of Sedeco , Fadlala Akabani Hneide, indicated that the city concentrates 35% of the 29,041 million dollars of national FDI in the first half of 2023, which represents the confidence of the world to invest in the capital, thanks to economic stability.

“Again, the countries that have invested the most in Mexico City are the United States, Spain, Canada and Germany, with the most dynamic sector being financial services, followed by the rebound in the manufacturing industry and investment in information mass media,” he added.

He also indicated that, in the first half of 2023, he certified that the economy of the country’s capital is in full acceleration and Mexico City is the best place to invest and open businesses. In all of 2022, he said, 11,108 million dollars of FDI were captured, so this figure is expected to be exceeded towards the end of the current year.
