Located in the center of Mexico, the state of San Luis Potosí has become a very competitive industrial development pole, according to Juan Carlos Valladares, secretary of Economic Development in the state .
Its strategic geographical location, together with its infrastructure, human talent and government support, have made San Luis Potosí an attractive state for the arrival of investments from all over the world.
“We have a lot of good conditions. Speaking particularly of the industrial sector, well, we are connected, we have road and rail infrastructure, industrial parks, energy, water, quality of life, and labor. We are a state that offers everything, ”he stressed.
According to data from the federal Ministry of Economy, at the end of 2022, the state of San Luis Potosí received 376.4 million dollars for foreign direct investment (FDI). The main investing countries were the United States, with 599.7 million dollars; Canada, with 95.8 million; Spain, with 49.4 million; Hong Kong, with 27.7 million; and the Netherlands, with five million.
According to the secretary, one of the strategic sectors that are driving growth in the state is the automotive industry.
“We have two assemblers and more than 250 supplier companies for these assemblers”, he highlighted.
He announced that in San Luis Potosí there are new industrial park projects with available hectares and with all the infrastructure needed to house international companies.
“We have many companies, one of them is BMW and many other suppliers of this automaker. We also have large projects in the iron and steel industry and household appliances. I think it’s going to be a great year,” he acknowledged.
Juan Carlos Valladares said that, at the beginning of the year, there were around 20 negotiations at different stages of the process.
He explained that although the automotive industry is the one that has the most strength, sectors such as metallurgy, household appliances, agriculture, mining and tourism also stand out.
“The tourist theme, with the area of the Huasteca Potosina and the Magical Towns, makes the state very attractive,” he acknowledged.
Among the factors mentioned by the Secretary of Economic Development, he highlighted, for example, that they have their own land, worked and with all the characteristics required by the industry. In addition, he commented that mobility and housing projects are being consolidated.
“It is a state where we try to give businessmen a lot of security, it is a state that, despite the complications that our country has, we have had a significant calm at the business level. There is also a lot of labor peace, we have no record, in the last 17 or 18 years, of there having been any strike in any of the companies; In addition, we have very hard-working people. I believe that all these conditions make San Luis Potosí able to compete for any investment, ”he explained.
For Valladares, one of the most important strategies to maintain the state’s industrial competitiveness is to build trust. “We have to generate certainty, go a step forward on the question of infrastructure, both in mobility, in security, in energy, in industrial parks.”
In addition, he shared that they are working to consolidate new development poles, industrial zones, investments in energy and to prepare qualified labor.
Likewise, he highlighted the relationship with universities and institutions, both public and private, in order to develop the talent that the industry demands.
“We are ready for any investment, the doors are open. Our job is to generate all the conditions and certainty that investors require so that they can set up their companies”, he concluded.
