Northern Border, Bajio, and Center became drivers of industry in Mexico I 11 december 2024
December 11, 2024

The industrial growth driven by nearshoring has been crucial for the development of certain states in Mexico, thanks to three of its regions with the strongest opportunities: the Border, Bajío, and Center.

We can see that some states in the Northern Border, such as Nuevo León, Chihuahua, and Coahuila, stand out for their state-of-the-art infrastructure and global competitiveness. These states lead the 2024 IDI ranking due to their solid infrastructure, leadership in manufacturing exports, and high contribution to industrial GDP.

The proximity of this region to the United States and its logistics infrastructure make the Northern Border an ideal location for nearshoring, boosted by the relocation of companies in response to changes in global supply chains.

Meanwhile, some states in the Bajío, such as Querétaro, Jalisco, and Guanajuato, have become hubs of technological innovation and sustainability.

On the other hand, some states in the central part of the country, such as Mexico City, the State of Mexico, and Puebla, play a critical role in industrial development due to their abundant skilled workforce, excellent connectivity, and complementary economy that fosters joint growth.

The 2024 Industrial Development Index highlights that Mexico has a robust industrial structure, with the Northern Border, Bajío, and Center regions well-positioned to capitalize on global trends in investment and sustainability.
